The Stephens Program, is a paid 51 week internship operated out of Caraway Conference Center and Camps offering the opportunity to grow in programmatic planning, hands on skills, and spiritual maturity. During this program, participants will experience the ins and outs of year round camp ministry. Each fall we invite 6-8 college aged individuals to live on our property and serve alongside us to provide the best service to our guests and rental groups while learning and being involved in the roots of our camps functionality.

We focus our attention on our three core values which we believe strongly support our goal to invest in people who love Jesus, the outdoors, and camp ministry. We want to instill professionalism, ownership, and a heart and attitude of service.

While focusing on these skills, we also want to pour into your spiritual life with frequent group devotions, intentional discipleship, and purposeful conversations. The Stephens Program also offers a great opportunity for networking and seeing the operations of other camp facilities.

For more information or questions, feel free to send an email to the Director of the Stephens Program, Calvin Lindsey, at [email protected].

PROGRAMMING

Stephens will get the opportunity to have hands on experience with program development. Last year our Stephens took the lead on both Winter Camp and our Refuge Retreat.

RECREATION

Recreation doesn't just stop after Summer Camp. Our year round groups love the opportunities that are available to them as well! Stephens will learn how to manage, facilitate, and maintain safety needs of everything from Zipline to Hatchet throwing.

GUEST SERVICES

Hospitality is ultimately at the root of everything that Camp Ministry embodies. This heart posture starts from the first contact guests have with Caraway. Stephens will spend time learning how to execute professionalism from that initial phone call to assisting guests with their needs during their stay.

MAINTENANCE

While Maintenances won't be every Stephen's dream camp job, the saying "It takes a village" has never been more true with Groundskeeping and Facilities operations. Stephens will be equipped with a working knowledge of everything from driving the backhoe and skid steer, to operating a wood chipper.

FOOD SERVICE

Community and Fellowship always starts at the table. Stephens will learn about food prep and safety, and how to fulfill the great commission through each plate of food that is served at Caraway.

MARKETING & MEDIA

All Stephens will have a crash course in Social Media Marketing and Graphic Design. This knowledge will help them develop their eye to what effective communication looks like from a non profit business standpoint. Stephens will also learn how to operate and maintain Audio/Visual equipment for our guest's needs.

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Year round camp ministry isn't what you think it would look like. It ebbs and flows between predictable and unexpected, restful and high energy. This is why we believe in pouring into our Stephens both professionally and personally. It's important to learn biblical rhythms and sustainable living in full time ministry. We work hard, but we also play and rest hard. We do this in a few ways...

  • Intentional times of Bible Study with Camp Leadership
  • Monthly Book Studies
  • One on One Mentoring Sessions
  • Touring Camps and Creating Community and Learning by Immersion
  • The Big Backpacking Trip
  • Helping all Stephens get plugged into a local church
  • White Water Rafting

We want all Stephens to get out of their comfort zone and into their growth zone. While we help facilitate all these amazing things to help you get there, your growth is ultimately up to you. You get out camp ministry what you put in, and you're in control of what you put in.

Where are they now?

Many of our Stephens find a full time job in Camp Ministry after their internship here at Caraway. Those who haven't have gone on to educators, business leaders, military personnel, church and non-profit ministry and so much more. Whichever route they choose post internship, all of our Stephens would agree that the time they spent here developing their leadership skills was invaluable.
